Relief
We have supported thousands of refugees from DR Congo, Burundi and Rwanda. Since 1998 CAV fed 22,000 Congolese Tutsis in a refugee camp. CAV fed Tutsi Congolese survivors of the 2004 Gatumba massacre.
In 2003 CAV and Omega trained twelve people to deal with traumatic emergencies. Now these very people – who continue their work despite fears for their own safety – are responding to the current crisis in Central Africa.
Despite many obstacles, CAV achieved our goals the summer of 2004. Your financial support made a vital difference. With your assistance:
- Over 7,000 refugees were given food.
- Eighteen new Community Banks were started.
- 1,500 youth attended a conference to stop carrying AK47s and start carrying books for the betterment of their future.
- Two hundred Rwandan and Congolese church and community leaders attended a conference in the town of Gisenyi.
- In Burundi over two hundred and fifty men and women participated in a conference after the massacre at Gatumba that included a special session for Banyamulenge pastors at churches throughout Burundi and Rwanda.
