CENTRAL AFRICA VISION HIGH SCHOOL

CAV High School is for children who are survivors of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Currently there are 64 Students, 25 are orphans and some are HIV Positive. The students have all completed their primary school education through grade 6 but owing to lack of funds, opportunity or being separated from their families, they had never been able to start secondary school. CAV has given them the chance. Most of these students have not been in school for 3-5 years and they range in age from 15 to 21. The school will add a new class each season until they have a complete High School. Currently, the students have almost finished the first level of secondary school, the equivalent of 7th grade.

In addition to a very rigorous academic program, the school also has some very special groups:
  • A committee of 12 students to encourage other students to do their homework.

  • A Never Again Club to promote peace and reconciliation. This is a first for Rwanda and CAV HighSchool would like to make this a pilot project to bring to other schools in the district.

  • Committees on management, Red Cross, HIV/AIDS and the environment.
